Unemployment rate falls to 9.3 percent in Turkey

(Cihan) - Turkey's unemployment rate dropped to 9.3 percent in October 2006, according to the latest data released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TUIK).

According to the TUIK data based on latest "Household Labor Force Survey", the unemployment rate during September-October-November period of the last year was registered at 9.3 percent. The figure for the corresponding period of 2005 was 10.1 percent.

The unemployment rate was recorded at 11.3 percent in urban areas and 6.4 percent in rural areas when compared to the same period of the previous year, reports Trend.

Non-agricultural unemployment also regressed to 11.9 percent from 13.1 percent a year ago.

Over the same three-month period, the labor force participation rate was registered at 48.4 percent. The total number of employed people in Turkey is over 22.8 million, i.e. 608,000 more than that of the same period of the previous year.

In August and September 2006, the figures stood at 9.1 percent.
