Iran, Syria discuss issues of mutual interest

(IRNA) - A delegation from Iran's House of Political Parties, headed by it's chairman, Ayatollah Hossein Moussavi Tabrizi, met and conferred with Syrian Minister of Religious Endowments Ziyad al-Ayubi.

Expansion of Tehran-Damascus ties and exchange of experiences in promoting endowments were major topics discussed in the meeting.

The two sides underscored the key role played by the Muslim ulema in strengthening unity and solidarity among Islamic states, reports Trend.

They said Muslim nations should be warned against the conspiracies of enemies to create divisions among the various Islamic sects.

The Iranian delegation arrived in Syria Monday evening to hold talks with senior members of Syrian political parties.

The delegation, comprising representatives from various Iranian political parties, is visiting Syria upon the invitation of its ruling Baath Party.

The Iranian delegation is scheduled to meet with officials of the Baath Party and National Progressive Front of Syria.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival at Damascus' airport, Moussavi Tabrizi expressed hope the visit would further promote Tehran-Damascus ties in all fields.

He stressed the importance of Tehran and Damascus maintaining close political ties in the face of increasing international challenges facing the two states which have joint security, political and economic interests.
