Tourism income decreased by 7.2 percent in 2006- Turkish Statistics Institute

(www.cihannews.com) вЂ" Statistic reports revealed that there was a decrease in tourism sector in Turkey. Turkish Statistics Institute (TUIK) reported that the rate of income from tourism in 2006 decreased by 7.2 percent to $16.8 billion when compared to 2005.

Last year, 23.1 million tourists visited Turkey and spent $728 each. Foreign tourists provided an income of $12.5 billion each spending $651. The tourism sector gained $4.3 billion from local tourist with individual expense of $1.110.

Tourists seem to have preferred to travel on their own as 89.5 percent of expenses were individual and 10.5 percent of expenses were from packed tours, reports Trend.

In the last quarter of 2006 tourism income decreased by 12.9 to $3.1 billion.
