(www.cihannews.com) вЂ" Greek administration decided late on Tuesday to cancel debts owed by Turkish minority foundations living in Western Thrace after updating the legislation regarding their legal commitments.

Administration methods of Turkish foundations will be changed and their debts will be written off, Greek Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos said after a ministerial meeting, citing the foundations lagging behind recent legal commitments as the reason for the change, the Athens News Agency (ANA) reported.

Dora Bakoyannis, foreign minister of Greece, said that the ministers had decided to remove some obstacles to update the foundations law, reports Trend.

Saying that there is ongoing cooperation regarding the development of Western Thrace, Bakoyannis called on the European Union to contribute to this cooperation.

The administrators of the Turkish minority foundations in Western Thrace are appointed by Greek government according to the current Greek laws.
