Turkish NGOs convened to discuss changes in Article 301

(www.cihannews.com) вЂ" After the Dink murder, Article 301, that makes it a crime to insult Turkishness, came into the limelight as the 'prime suspect' for the murder.

Government was heavily criticized and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the government had requested before from the NGOs to give a proposal for changes in the article but no suggesitons came from the organizations, reports Trend.

On Friday NGOs convened to discuss what the changes may be. Nineteen NGOs, including Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodities Exchange (TOBB), Confederation of Turkish Labor Unions(Turk- Is) and Civil Servants Trade Union (Memur-Sen) are attending the meeting.

Turkish Bar Association (TBB) President Ozdemir Ozok said that they did not have a certain opinion on the issue and that the attendants would try and solve the problem with good intentions, reports Trend.

There were many more undemocratic laws in Turkey, said Ozok, but the state Turkey was in was obvious as well.
