Iran’s foreign minister, OIC secretary general review regional developments

(IRNA) - Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki conferred on Tuesday with the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu on latest regional, global developments and those of Muslim World.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the fourth United Nations Human Rights Council meeting at UN European Headquarters in the Swiss capital.

Mottaki expressed satisfaction with OIC's successful performance in dealing with international issues pertaining to the regional developments.

He said that the OIC is expected to play a much more active role to help resolve issues of Muslim World.

Referring to conspiracies of the World Arrogance, he said the global arrogance is conspiring religious and sectarian conflict and it requires vigilance, patience and unity of Muslim World to successfully foil such plots.

Ihsanoglu said that the draft for amendment to the OIC Charter has been worked out and will be approved by the member states in the near future.

The OIC secretary-general emphasized the need for bolstering unity and solidarity among Islamic countries.

In the meantime, Norway foreign minister Jonas Gahr Stoere conferred with Manouchehr Mottaki on issues of mutual interests.

Mottaki arrived in Geneva Monday morning.

The two-week meeting will discuss promotion and protection of human rights across the world.

He is also scheduled to attend a disarmament conference later on Tuesday.
