Iran-Syria good ties, model for Islamic countries: vice-president

( IRNA ) - IRI First Vice-President referring to good level of cooperation between Iran and Syria n said such here Wednesday appropriate level of our bilateral ties could serve as model for other Islamic countries.

Parviz Davoudi made the remark in a meeting with visiting Syrian Prime Minister Muhammad Naji al-Otri, adding, "The officials of both countries should try to deepen and expand bilateral cooperation on a permanent basis.

He added Iran and Syria relying on their revolutionary stances, broad religious and cultural commonalties, and share stands on regional and international affairs can play an effective role in regional development.

Davoudi continued, " By expansion of cooperation level and joining other regional countries in our cooperation and common stands in international bodies we can play an effective role and change the direction of developments in benefit of regional countries." Referring to the strong will of both countries' presidents for promotion of bilateral cooperation, the Iranian Veep expressed hope that by holding the 9th Joint Supreme Committee Meeting an important step would be taken toward deepening and expanding bilateral ties in different fields.

The Syrian PM, too, on his part, said that the Iranians experience in various fields and progresses in different technologies are very valuable for Syria.

He said that the Syrian government and people appreciate the Iranian leadership's good intentions toward Syrian development and progress.

Al-Otri referred to the recent inauguration ceremony of the first Iranian auto manufacturer factory in Syria, Samand, as a good model for bilateral cooperation which has been welcomed by the Syrian public.

He also expressed hope that relying on the officials efforts the other joint projects in such fields as agriculture, irrigation, electricity and construction of some cement plants can be commissioned to Iranian engineering firms soon.

The Syrian Prime Minister arrived here on Wednesday morning atop high ranking political and economic delegation.
