Iran's Majlis speaker begins Pakistan visit
( IRNA ) - Iran's Majlis Speaker, Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel arrived here on a three-day visit for talks on bilateral and regional issues.
The Iranian speaker was warmly received by Senate Chairman Mianmehmood Soomro, Chairman of Senate Foreign Relations Committee Mushahid HUssain Syed and several other senior officials of the country.
Haddad-Adel is to meet President General Pervez Musharraf, speaker National Assembly, Senate chairman and some other senior Pakistani officials.
He is to deliver a speech on unity of Muslim ummah at Islamabad International Islamic University.
The Iranian speaker will also visit the mausoleum of poet Muhammad Allama Iqbal in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province.
He will address a gathering of scholars and intellectuals in Lahore.
Talking to IRNA upon arrival, he said, "The objective of my visit is to strengthen bilateral ties in cultural, political and economic fields."
He added that he would also discuss bilateral and regional matters with Pakistani leaders.
" Pakistan is a Muslim and friendly neighbouring country. We are proud to further boost bilateral ties. We attach great importance to our ties with Pakistan," Haddad-Adel said.
He expressed the hope that his visit would lead to further expansion of bilateral ties.
