Resolving nuclear dispute needs new initiatives, Larijani says

( Irna ) - Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani said on Tuesday that Iran's nuclear standoff should be resolved through a new rational initiatives.

Larijani told reporters after his meeting with the visiting Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Barham Saleh that repetition of the old statements does help resolve the issue.

"We are now witnessing emergence of a rational attitude in dealing with Iran's nuclear issue and we believe that the talks should be pursued on a logical framework to bear fruitful results," he said.

On the result of talks with the visiting Iraqi deputy prime minister, he said they held very constructive and fruitful talks on expansion of economic cooperation and implementation of joint venture projects in both sides.

"We also discussed expansion of political cooperation and ways to help stop the bloodbath in the war-torn Iraq," he said.

Larijani said that Iran as an Iraqi ally, hopes the country's security problems would be resolved as soon as possible.

He expressed the hope that the current visit of the Iraqi deputy prime minister would bear fruitful results.

"We are determined to closely cooperate to help restore security in Iraq and rehabilitate its government."
