By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

Iranian labor minister Ali Rabiei said that some 6 million people in Iran are jobless.

Rabiei called on the lawmakers to help solve the unemployment crisis through approving a bill to establish a special employment fund, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on September 9.

If the current trend continues, the number of jobless people will reach 10 million in 2021, he added.

The unemployment rate among Iranian people of above 10 years old was 10.7 percent in spring. The unemployment rate was 12 percent in urban areas and 7.5 percent in rural areas, the Statistical Center of Iran reported in its latest census related to spring 2014.

The highest number of employment was in the service sector and the lowest number of employment was in the agriculture sector.

Based on the report, some 9.5 percent of the employed people had temporary jobs.

Lorestan and Tehran provinces had the highest and the lowest unemployment rates with 20.3 percent unemployment and 7.2 percent unemployment, respectively.

Rabiee said on August 16 that the Ministry has initiated a plan jointly with the planning department of the presidential office to create 500,000 jobs by the yearend, Iran's Mehr news agency reported.

The Iranian calendar year starts on March 21.

About $3 billion will be invested in the job creation plans, he added.

Previously, Iranian president Hassan Rouhani said 190,000 new jobs are projected to be created by the end of the current year.
