Iran has implemented a plan to curb diesel consumption, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on October 13.

Nasser Raeisifard, the head of the fuel station owners union of Iran, said that diesel-engine cars will be categorized into three groups and diesel will be allocated to the cars based on their fuel tank capacities.

The implementation of the plan started in the current Iranian calendar month of Mehr (began on September 23).

The unlimited selling of diesel at fuel stations has been suspended, Raeisifard noted.

Previously Iran's oil minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh has proposed $12 billion worth of projects to the National Economy Council to reduce fuel consumption.

Zanganeh has proposed eight plans to be approved by the National Economy Council, aiming to reduce the consumption of gasoline, diesel fuel, and natural gas, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on September 30.

The national budget bill has allowed the Oil Ministry to implement $100 billion of projects to reduce the consumption of fuel.
