Iran’s imports increase by 27% in 3Q

Iran imported $42.149 billion worth of goods during the first nine months of 2014, which indicates a rise by 27.52 percent, compared to the same period of the preceding year.

Iran imported some 30.557 million metric tons of goods during that period which is 34.43 percent more compared to the first three quarters of 2013, according to the Iranian Customs Administration latest monthly report released Nov. 3.

The Islamic Republic imported 2.667 million metric tons of non-oil goods, worth $3.853 billion in September 2014.

Wheat worth $ 1.641 billion topped the list of Iran's imported goods with 3.89 percent share from the country's total imports' value. The Islamic Republic imported 4.727 million metric tons of wheat in the first three quarters of 2014, indicating an increase by 59.91 percent in terms of volume year on year.

Iran's wheat imports also witnessed a rise by 33.78 during the mentioned period compared to the first nine months of 2013 in terms of value.

After wheat, motor vehicles with internal combustion engine worth $ 1.545 billion and rice worth $ 1.318 billion were other main imported goods of the Islamic Republic.

Tehran's rice imports has declined by 22.9 percent during the period, meanwhile the imports of motor vehicles registered a rise by 163.55 percent in terms of value compared with the first nine months of 2013.

The three mentioned goods shared 10.69 percent of Iran's total imports in terms of value.

The average price for each one metric ton of Iran's imported goods in the mentioned period was $1379, which is 5.14 percent less than the previous year.

Tehran's overall non-oil trade turn over stood at $66.971 billion during the first three quarters of 2014.

The figure indicates a rise by 20.9 percent in comparison with $55.35 billion trade turn over during the first nine months of 2013.
