Iran to start fishery product exports to Russia

Russia has started issuing licenses for 20 Iranian companies to export fishery products to Moscow, said Isa Golshahi, an official with Iran Fisheries Organization.

Golshahi said Russia has issued the first license last week, Iran's Mehr News Agency on Nov. 5

In response to a question about the possible amount of Iran's total fishery product exports to Russia in the current year, Golshahi said that the final figure depends on the negotiations between the private sectors of the two countries.

"Russian firms are expected to inform us about the items they need, so I think in the next 10-15 days the final amount of Iran's exports to Russia will be announced," he added.

Golshahi previously said that Iran is ready to export 100,000 metric tons of fishery products to Russia.

"The county has granted the necessary licenses to certain companies to export fishery to Russia," he said prviously.

"Russia is a new market for us," Golshahi said, adding that he hopes Iran's total fishery exports to all the foreign markets will reach $350 million by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (starts March 20, 2015).

Tehran is currently studying the possibility of exporting fruits and agricultural products to Moscow, as well.

During an official visit to Tehran by a high-ranking Russian delegation, the country officially requested Iran to increase its agricultural products and food stuff exports to Moscow in order to meet the country's domestic demands.
