By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

Iran sells diesel fuel at $1.1 per liter to Turkish transit trucks at border points, Asghar Tofiqi, an official at the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, said.

He said fuel is sold to each truck at the price of 15 cents per liter inside the country, Iran's Fars news agency reported on November 7.

"We sell fuel to the trucks which carry Iranian or foreign goods at $1.1 per liter. The price has increased slightly compared with $1 per liter earlier," he noted.

USD free market exchange rate in Iran is about 32,000 rials.

Iran and Turkey are at odds over trucks' transit fees. Over the past years, Iran has charged a $750 transit fee for the trucks entering the country from Turkey, while the Iranian trucks were entering Turkey for free.

Following that Turkey imposed a similar fee on Iranian trucks. But the Islamic Republic increased the fee to $1,500 on October 10.

The Iranian officials said that under an agreement signed with Turkey a few decades ago, the two sides may charge a transit fee only if there is a difference in fuel prices in the two countries.
