Iran to inaugurate new power stations with 1020MW output

Iran will inaugurate new power stations with a total 1020 megawatts of output by the end of the current year.

Managing Director of Iran Power Development Company (IPDC) Majid Salehi said eight power stations will come on stream by the end of the current year, Iran's IRIB reported on November 11.

The current Iranian calendar year began on March 21.

Two gas-fired power stations in western city of Eslamabad, two power stations in southeastern cities of Genaveh and Chadormalou, two power stations in southern city of Kahnouj, and two power stations in southern city of Bandar Abbas will come on stream, he said.

The power generation capacity in Iran has grown by seven percent annually over the past ten years.

Iran should annually add 5,000 MW to its power generation capacity, in accordance with the Fifth Five-Year Economic Development Plan.

Iran plans to boost its electricity generation capacity to reach 73GW, by the end of the Fifth Five-Year Economic Development Plan (March 2016).
