Iran tea output falls by 30%

Iran produced 15,000 metric tons of dried leaf of tea from the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21) so far.

The figure is 30 percent less than same period previous year, Iran's Mehr News Agency reported on Nov. 12.

The country's annual domestic consumption is around 90,000-100,000 metric tons.

Iran's per capita tea consumption stands at 1.3-1.5 kilograms.

In total, 66 million metric tons of green leaf of tea worth some 900 billion rials (some $28.12 million based on the exchange rate of US dollar at the free market) were produced in Iran in the mentioned period.

Iran is the Middle East's and North Africa's greatest producer of garden products, and ranks 8th or 9th in the world.
