The Iranian drilling industry experts are offering services in Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Heidar Bahmani, Director of National Iranian Drilling Company, said Iranian experts are involved in drilling operations in the North Sea, Libya and Turkmenistan, Iran's Fars news agency reported on Dec. 6.

"Currently, over 110 drilling rigs are operating across the country. The rigs have drilled more than 3,500 wells so far," he added.

Hamid-Reza Tayyebi, the head of Iran's Jahad-e Daneshgahi Institute, said on Oct. 8 that the Iranian Oil Ministry adopted a new strategy to stop building drilling rigs domestically.

"In view of the Oil Ministry's new policy, we will follow the strategy of not manufacturing drilling rigs domestically," he said.

The Oil Ministry's new policy is hiring drilling rigs instead of building them.

Nearly two years ago on July 19, 2011, the Iranian Oil Ministry's website quoted deputy oil minister, Hamdollah Mohammadnejad, as saying that the country reached self-sufficiency in building onshore drilling rigs.
