Baku, Azerbaijan, Jan. 5

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Leaking sour gas from Iran's South Pars gas field phase 15 was denied.

Reza Forouzesh, development project manager of phase 15 and 16 of South pars gas field, said the two phases are currently producing 33 million cubic meters of gas per day, Iran's Shana news agency reported on Jan. 5.

Sour gas is natural gas or any other gas containing significant amounts of hydrogen sulfide. It is a colorless gas which it is heavier than air, very poisonous, corrosive, flammable, and explosive.

Meanwhile, an unknown source told Iran's Fars news agency that Iran has halted transferring gas from phase 15 due to leakage.

The source also said that sour gas has been leaking from phase 9 of the gas field since last year, but Pars Oil and Gas Company has not taken any measure in this regard.

The source added that sour gas is leaked from a 32-inch pipeline 200 meters away from SPD9 platform of phase 9 of the gas field.

South Pars sour gas is spread in the sea and causes many environmental problems, the source said.
