Tehran refinery will launch a catalytic reforming unit to produce high-octane gasoline, Iran's Shana news agency reported on Jan. 21.

The continuous catalyst regeneration (CCR) unit converts petroleum refinery naphthas distilled from crude oil (typically having low octane ratings) into high-octane liquid products called reformates, which are premium blending stocks for high-octane gasoline.

Construction of the CCR unit will start in the beginning of the next Iranian calendar year (March 21). The unit is projected to be established over the course of 36 months.

Shahrokh Khosravani, deputy director of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) said on Jan. 16 that three gasoline production units will come on stream in Iran which will boost the country's euro-4 gasoline production by 10 billion liters.

The Persian Gulf Star Refinery's gasoline output will rise to 36 million liters, meeting euro-4 standards, he noted.

The Bandar Abbas refinery's gasoline production unit is 90 percent complete and will come on stream in the next Iranian year (starting on March 21), he added.

The Isfahan refinery's gasoline production unit will also come on stream by the end of the current Iranian year, he noted.

Khosravani said in last November that Iran will stop importing gasoline next fiscal year(to start on March 21).
