Iran drills over 310 kilometers of oil, gas wells in 10 months

National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) has drilled over 315,350 meters of oil and gas wells by its drilling fleet during the first ten months of current Iranian fiscal year(March 21, 2014-Jan 21).

The company has completed drilling operations of 131 offshore and onshore oil and gas wells in the period, Deputy Director of NIDC Mehran Makvandi said, the oil ministry's official SHANA news agency reported Jan. 25.

The drilling includes 70 development operations, one exploration drilling and 60 repair and completion operations, the official said.

the National Iranian South Oilfields Company, Iranian Central Oilfields Company and Iranian Offshore Oil Company share 90, 13 and 9 wells, he said, adding the NIDC also has drilled seven wells for Petroleum Engineering and Development Company and two wells for National Iranian Oil Company's Exploration Directorate as well as 11 wells having been drilled under contracts.

Currently around 30 percent of the company's capacity has been used in joint fields including Azadegan, Yaran, Azar and South Pars, Makvandi said.

The official said that that the NIDC has managed to complete drilling of 15 oil wells 278 days ahead of schedule.

By holding 157 billion barrels of recoverable crude oil reserves, Iran possesses the world's fourth largest reserves of crude oil.

The Islamic Republic also holds 33.6 trillion cubic meters of proven gas reserves, sharing 18 percent of total global gas reserves, which puts the country in the top of the world's gas holders list.
