Member of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture Kaveh Zargaran has said that in the first 10 months of the current Iranian fiscal year (Mar. 21, 2014 to Jan. 20, 2015), the country exported worth $4.2 billion food and agricultural products.

He stated that the number accounted for 15 percent of the country's non-oil export, adding that the number could increase by 100 percent once the Western economical sanctions are removed.

He said that in the meantime, dairy products export grew by 2.5 percent to hit $474 million; and confectionary products by 13 percent to amount to $537 million.

Zargaran added that fruits, nuts, livestock, fish and other aquatic animals comprised the largest part of Iran's agricultural export in the period mentioned.

Pistachio was the top profit-making exported agricultural product by earning the country $1.4 billion. Livestock export stood at $105 million and seafood at $142 million, he said.

Tehran is currently studying the possibility of exporting fruits and agricultural products to Russia as a main market.

During an official visit to Tehran by a high-ranking Russian delegation, the country officially requested Iran to increase its agricultural products and food stuff exports to Moscow in order to meet the country's domestic demands.

Iran exported $151 million worth of products to Russia from March 21 to Oct.23 and $80 million of this amount fell to the share of agricultural products. In other words, agricultural products account for more than half the value of exports from Iran to Russia.
