Iran, France to hold first joint agricultural committee meeting
Baku, Azerbaijan, Apr.13
By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran and France will hold their first joint agricultural committee meeting in the third Iranian calendar month of Khordad (May 22-June 21), said Hooman Fathi, the Iranian deputy agriculture minister.
"The meeting is aimed to follow up the implementation of agricultural agreements which were previously signed by the two countries," Iran's IRNA news agency quoted Fathi as saying April 13.
Agricultural ministers of Iran and France agreed last year that Western sanctions on Iran would not influence the agricultural cooperation between Tehran and Paris, he noted.
The two countries have agreed to boost cooperation in framing, gardening, fishery, and animal husbandry, he stated.
In May 2014, Iranian Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati met with a group of agricultural industry owners coming from France.
During the meeting, Hojjati said his ministry has put the attraction of foreign investment top on the agenda in a bid to stimulate the country's agricultural growth.
The minister made clear that Iran and France could forge stronger cooperation in a whole host of agricultural fields, such as production of organic foods, animal husbandry and fish farming, modern irrigation methods and harvesting techniques.
He added that the two countries could even bolster academic ties in the area of agricultural industries, biotechnology, nanotechnology as well as marketing.
