Company hires Chinese workers as Iranians remain unemployed

Zarand steel factories have employed Chinese workers to replace Iranian workers. The executive director of the factories said the workers are being imported for equipment installation, ILNA news agency reported June 2.

The move worries Iranian workers already working in the factories.

Head of the city of Zarand 's Bureau of Labor has said that he will stand up against the move. However, sources say that the Chinese workers will arrive in Zarand in one week.

Some 16.1 percent of youths between the ages of 25 to 29 were jobless in Iran in the three-month period from September 23 to December 22, 2014.

The Statistical Center of Iran reported that the country's total unemployment rate stood at 10.5 percent in the mentioned period. The figure was 9.5 percent in summer.

Agriculture, industry, and services sectors accounted for 3.2, 42.5, and 54.3 percent employment in Iran in the mentioned period.

The Central Bank of Iran reported in November that 24 percent of Iranian households have no employed members.
