Iran is going to export hepatitis and BCG vaccines to Syria, Pasteur Institute Director Mostafa Qanei said.

Syrian Health Minister Saad Abdel-Salam al-Nayef recently visited Pasteur Institute in Tehran, when arrangements were made for Syrian experts to travel to Iran to test the Iranian-made vaccines before they are sent to Syria, Mehr news agency reported August 24.

According to the official, Syria recently imported a vaccine consignment form Turkey, but the vaccines created health issues for children who had used them.

Qanei also announced that the institute has a wide range of research and production programs underway, aimed at exporting products to other Islamic countries.

Iranian Food and Drug Organization Director Rasoul Dinarvand announced in January that the country's drug export had hit $150 million for the previous year.

In recent years, international sanctions have made it difficult for Iran to acquire drugs from abroad, so the country has tapped its domestic know-how to meet the shortage.
