The number of banking transactions on the Shetab banking network in Iran for the first four months of the current Iranian year (since March 21) grew by 29 percent compared to the same period of the preceding year, Iranian Central Bank President Mahmoud Ahmadi said.
Addressing a press conference where he outlined improvements in banking system under the Rouhani administration on the occasion of the Government Week in Iran, Ahmadi added that the previous year a total of 30 billion banking transactions were performed on the national banking network.Less than 11 million of those were intra-bank transactions and the rest were inter-bank transactions, he said, Trend correspondent reported from Tehran August 25.Ahmadi added there are 300 million access cards in Iran, indicating 4.2 cards per capita.

"We also launched SPAM (electronic financial messaging system) which will be used as basis for the domestic suit," he added.

According to Ahmadi, Chakavak was the most recent banking platform, launched in the current Iranian fiscal year.

Chakavak is an online banking system for check management that Iran is trying to introduce as a nationally viable platform.

He said the platform is responsible for the transfer of 54 trillion rials ($1.8 billion) each day.
He said Shaparak and Arya were also among the banking systems launched during the incumbent presidency.

Some 95 percent of Iran's liquidity is handled through electronic banking facilities.
