Caviar exports from Iran’s Mazandaran to Europe increase

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran's Mazandaran Province exported 523 kilograms of farmed caviar to Europe in the first four months of the current Iranian fiscal year, started on March 21.

Valiollah Mohammadezadeh, an official at Mazandaran's fishery department, said $455,000 worth of farmed caviar was exported to Britain, Germany, and Belgium, Iran's IRNA news agency reported on Sept. 9.

Last year, 455 kilograms of farmed caviar, worth $397,000 was exported from the province to Europe, he noted.

Some 73,000 tons of fish was produced in 3,250 fish farms across the province last year, he said.

The deputy of Iran Fishery Organization Hossein Abdolhay said on May 15 that Iran exports caviar at about €1,700 per kilogram. The country's top caviar clients are France and Spain, he added.
