More than 5 million passengers traveled via Iran's border areas over the first 5 months of the current Iranian fiscal year, started on March 21.
Director for Transit and Border Terminals of Iran's Road Maintenance and Transport Organization Mohammad Javad Atrchian said the figure shows a 4 percent drop year on year, Iran's Fars news agency reported on September 19.
Some 1.48 million foreign travelers arrived in Iran, while 1.39 million foreign travelers left the country during the 5-month period, he said.
Meanwhile, some 1.1 million Iranian travelers arrived in Iran, while 1.03 million Iranian travelers left the country.
Mehran, Bazargan, Shalamcheh, Bashmaq, Tamarchin, Astara, Bilehsavar, and Parvizkhan were the main border areas with the highest travels registered, he noted.
