Tehran plans to participate in the projects for drilling oil and gas field in Oman and Iraq, an Iranian oil official said.

Mohammad Reza Takaidi, deputy head of National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) said that his organization has to drill 40 wells in South Azadegan oilfield, of which 25 have already been completed, Fars news agency reported Dec. 20.

Speaking on the sidelines of an exhibition on home-made oil equipment, Takaidi expressed hope that the drilling operation in South Azadegan oilfield will be completed by October next year.

He also added that 12 wells have so far been drilled in the Joint Southern Yaran oilfield which did not make progress as planed due to the lack of equipment.

Speaking about Azar oilfield, Takaidi said that it is one of the most complicated and hardest oilfields in terms of geological conditions and depth of well in which only three wells have so far been drilled.

He further said that about a year ago, drilling in Kish gas field was stopped due to lack of data. However, the company has resumed the operations since March after obtaining the necessary information and equipment.

Earlier, Iranian deputy oil minister Amir Hossein Zamaninia said that the country plans to buy new shares of oil and gas fields abroad and to participate in oil and gas projects across the world.
