Afghanistan imports 40 percent of its products from Iran

Iranian goods account for 40 percent of Afghanistan's imports, Head of Iran's Exhibition Projects Seyed Alireza Sadrzadehsaid.

Alireza Sadrzadeh said that the value of products that Afghanistan imports annually from the world stands at $8 billion of which Iranian products account for $3 billion, Fars news agency reported.

He also said that Iran will hold a fair in Afghanistan on March 1 to display its products.

He speculated that Iranian and Afghan traders will sign several contracts worth at $100 million.

According to him the exclusive trade exhibition will be sponsored by Trade Promotion Organization of Iran aimed at inking new contracts with Afghan traders.

Over the past years Iran has staged several exhibitions in various cities of Afghanistan such as Herat and Mazar-e Sharif.

In 2009, Iran largely invested in Afghanistan's roads and bridges construction, as well as agriculture and health care sectors.

During a meeting in 2014 President Hassan Rouhani and former Afghan President Hamid Karazi issued a joint statement, commissioning foreign ministers of both countries to come up with a comprehensive friendship and cooperation pact which would guarantee long-term mutual interests of the two neighboring nations.
