Iran and Italy have signed four memorandums of understanding (MOUs) on railways, after-sales service, oil and gas, as well as holding exhibitions.

The MOUs were signed by the representatives of the private sector of both countries Feb. 9 in Iran, IRNA news agency reported.

Iranian Minister of Transport Abbas Akhoundi and Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati, as well as Deputy Oil Minister Amirhossein Zamaninia alongside with a number of Italian ministers oversaw a ceremony for inking the MOUs.

Under the MOU on railways, Iran will buy spare parts for railways and Italy will train Iranian railway sector experts.

The MOU on the after-sales service stipulates that Iranian and Italian private sectors are expected to expand bilateral cooperation and technology transfer.

Following the MOU on oil and gas, the Italian side is expected to help Iran in building factories to produce commodities.

An Italian delegation, comprised of 310 members from 197 companies, arrived in Tehran on Jan. 9 to discuss the expansion of bilateral ties.

The Italian delegation's visit to Tehran comes in the wake of President Rouhani's milestone trip to Europe, which kicked off on Jan. 25.

During Rouhani's Rome visit, Iran and Italy signed a number of contracts worth $18.4 billion covering various sectors, including healthcare and transportation.

Rouhani was the first Iranian president to pay an official visit to the EU over the past 10 years.
