Iran has exported over seven million barrels of oil within two days, an Iranian official said.

"Over 7.1 million barrels of oil were exported within 48 hours," Mehr news agency quoted Pirouz Mousavi, head of Iranian Oil Terminals Company, as saying.

He said the export operation took place a few days ago but did not provide the exact date.

Describing the operation as a breakthrough, Pirouz Mousavi said that the move came as a result of the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as well as an Iranian administration's recent visit to Europe.

Following the removal of international sanctions against Iran in mid-January, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani heading a large delegation comprising of cabinet members and businessmen, paid a four-day official visit to Europe in late January signing a raft of multi-billion dollar deals ranging from energy to industry.

According to Mousavi, the deal on purchasing Iran's oil was agreed during President Hassan Rouhani's recent visit to the Europe where a couple of European companies and Iranian ministers of economy and oil discussed the issue.

During President Rouhani's Europe trip, Iranian oil ministry's officials had discussions with the oil giants of Total, Eni and Saras.

The head of Iranian oil terminals added that the export figure of Tehran's crude has already increased by 400,000 barrels per day following the removal of international sanctions against Iran's oil industry.

Speaking about measures taken for the maintenance of equipment and facilities at oil terminals, he forecasted that the country's oil exports will surpass 500,000 barrels per day within one month.
