Iran, Turkey considering new railway route

The head of the Islamic Republic Railways Mohsen Pour Seyed Aghaei has said that a new railway will connect Iran to Turkey.



"Iran and Turkey have reached general agreements for constructing a new railway," ILNA news agency quoted him as saying March 2.



The new railway will run through Iran's Bazargan border city, according to Mohsen Pour Seyed Aghaei.



The Iranian official also said the construction has not been launched yet and the country is still collecting and analyzing data for constructing the railway.



He further elaborated on a project to connect the railways of Iran and Azerbaijan, describing the project as the most important project of his organization.



According to the official, discussions have been held for financing the project and a Czech bank has expressed interest in it.



Mohsen Pour Seyed Aghaei also touched upon a railway route connecting Iran and Turkmenistan, adding that Tehran is planning to extend the route to Afghanistan's border.
