The National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) has deployed more than 15 drilling rigs in the joint oil and gas fields, the NIODC head said.

Heidar Bahmani, the NIODC head, has said that his company is involved in drilling operations in the oil fields of Azadegan, South Yaran, Azar, Sohrab and the phase 14 of the South Pars gas field, SHANA news agency reported.

He said that the company is involved in drilling operations for about 100 wells.

He further added that the company has completed the drilling operation of four oil rigs within the past couple of weeks.

According to him the company is finalizing the drilling operation of five wells in the South Azadegan oil field.

A Chinese contractor in charge of developing the South Azadegan oil field was dismissed in April 2014 due to the company's failure to fulfill its commitments in developing the project.

According to an Oil Ministry's document seen by Trend news agency the South Azadegan project experienced 17.6 percent development by January 2016.

Iran and Iraq both operate in the South Azadegan, Yaran and Azar fields while the South Pars Gas filed is jointly owned by Iran and Qatar.

Meanwhile, the phase 14 of the South Pars gas field has been developed by 10.4 percent and is expected to produce 50 million cubic meters of gas per day.
