Iran eyes 1.3 million of car output yearly

Iran plans to manufacture 1.35 million cars in current fiscal year (started March 20), Mohsen Salehinia, deputy industry minister said.

The country also plans to boost its auto export, the official said, Mehr news agency reported April 6.

Cooperation between Iranian carmakers and foreign car manufacturers has started, said Salehinia, adding the Iranian market will be supplied with joint venture products from early 2017.

In the first 11 months of the last Iranian fiscal year (March 2015 to February 2016), 878,644 cars were manufactured in Iran, indicating a 15.6-percent decrease year on year.

Iranian carmakers produced 803,455 sedan cars (8.9 percent fall), 64,975 pick-ups (53.5 percent fall), 9,153 trucks (51.7 percent fall), 466 minibuses (100 percent rise) and 605 buses (4.5 percent rise) in the 11-month period.

Iran also imported 51,522 sedan cars, worth $1.23 billion, during the last Iranian fiscal year that ended on March 20, registering a fall by 50.4 percent in terms of amount and 42.8 percent in terms of value year on year.
