Tehran, Iran, May 4

By Mehdi Sepahvand -- Trend:

Neither Iran nor India has left talks on gas delivery to petrochemical factories and they are still hopeful about a deal, said Ali Mohammad Bosaq Zadeh, an official at the National Iranian Petrochemical Industries Company.

Indians are quite interested also in investing in Iran's urea and ammonia factories, he told IRNA news agency May 4.

India is in need of great amounts of urea fertilizers and because Iran's Chabahar Free Zone is close to that country and has ample gas supply, New Delhi is interested in launching petrochemical units in the southeastern Iranian zone.

The official said four units are defined for the production of ammonia and four other units for the production of methanol in Chabahar, adding India has expressed interest cooperating on all four of them.

Recently reports claimed that Tehran had dismissed India's offer to invest in Iran for New Delhi had called for a gas feed price much lower than what Tehran had offered.

Iran plans to turn Chabahar into its third largest petrochemical hub, after Asaluyeh and Mahshahr, with some investment of 10 to 12 billion dollars.
