Tehran, Iran, May 20

By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:

World banks are afraid that despite assurances from the US Treasury, they might be punished by the US legislative or judiciary bodies if they engage in business with Iran, said the Central Bank of Iran President Valiollah Seif.

He made the statement addressing the 'Relinking Iran to International Financial Society' conference in London, organized by Euromoney and the Central Bank of Iran, Fars news agency reported May 20.

The problem is that some US entities put too much energy into enforcing the sanctions policies, but that will hurt the US as well, Seif warned.

He also expressed regret that the Western side of the Iranian nuclear deal failed to fully implement its part of the deal obligations, to eliminate the sanctions' effects on the Iranian economy.

Seif called on the world's trade organizations and companies to encourage governments to start relations with Iran, assuring them that Iran will be a safe place for business.
