Mining forms $11.5B of Iran’s trade turnover

Mines and mining industry of the Islamic republic exported $7.05 billion worth of goods and services over last Iranian calendar year (ended March 20), a local official said.

Amir Sabbagh, an official with the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) has said that the mining sector had a share of $11.5 billion in the country's trade turnover over the last Iranian year, IRIB reported.

According to him, the import figure of the country's mining sector in the mentioned period stood at $4.44 billion.

Sabbagh noted the advantages of mining sector and Iran's capabilities in mining, also saying that this sector requirs investments.

Saying that the country invested about $640 million in mining sector over the last calendar year, the official predicted that the investment figure will reach $1.18 billion over the current year.

Iran possesses seven percent of the world's total mineral deposits with about sixty eight kinds of commercially valued minerals including gold reserves. The volume of Iran's minerals is estimated at 57 billion tons.

The Islamic Republic is among the 10 major mineral-rich countries and it is situated in the area of metallic and non-metallic minerals such as gold and copper.
