Iran eyes $20B technical-engineering services exports in electricity sector

Iran's technical-engineering services export in electricity sector has the potential to increase to $20 billion per year, Houshang Falahatian, the country's deputy energy minister said.

Iran's annual technical and engineering services export stands at some $3 billion currently, Falahatian said, IRNA news agency reported May 28.

Electricity sector shares some $2.8 billion of the aforementioned figure, he added.

The energy ministry seeks to increase the quality of domestic products using expertise of foreign companies, he said, adding, the nuclear deal has prepared grounds for cooperation of Iranian firms with foreign counterparts.

Iran has reached self-sufficiency in the field of producing power generation equipments and is on the verge of self-sufficiency in construction of power plants and electricity distribution network as well, Falahatian said.

Earlier Bahram Nezamolmaleki, an official with the Iranian Energy Ministry said that the Iranian companies are implementing various water and electricity sector projects, worth $6.5 billion around the world.

He also said that Iranian companies have undertaken 25 energy sector projects, worth over $660 million in Syria.

The value of Iran's annual technical-engineering exports stood at $2.9 billion during the fiscal year to March 2015. Energy sector technical-engineering exports shared 88 percent of the figure.
