By Mehdi Sepahvand – Trend:

The German company Siemens is going to help Iran develop a power plant in Bandar Abbas city in southern Iran.

The contract related to the project of developing Bandar Abbas Tavanir Power Plant has been finalized, according to which Siemens will work with Iran, said Bahman Niki, head of Hormozgan Power Generation Management Company, IRNA news agency reported Aug. 16.

The development project will consist of one combined cycle block with two gas units and one steam unit, with a total capacity of 900 megawatts, the official explained.

This will be Siemens’ fist cooperation with Iran after it cut ties with the Islamic Republic under harsh sanctions that restricted business with Tehran.

The combined cycle units will use Class-F turbines, the first to be used in Iran, and boost power plant efficiency, Niki added.

Iran’s power output capacity stands at 75,000 megawatts, combined cycle power generation comprising about 14,000 megawatts of it, accompanied by about 1 percent nuclear power (1,000 megawatts) and less than 1 percent renewable sources.
