By Mehdi Sepahvand – Trend:

Farhad Izadju, director of South Pars phases 22, 23 and 24, has said the first sweetening unit of the phases will go operational by June 2017.

The unit will use gas from phases 6 to 8 of the gas field to go on stream, he told SHANA news agency Sept. 21.

The three phases have made 86.5 percent progress in the EPC refinery sections, he said.

Izadju added that once the phases come on stream, they will add 2 billion cubic feet per year to South Pars output.

South Pars’s output is currently 430 million cubic meters. It is expected to surpass 500 million by March.

South Pars is divided to 24 development phases and contains 40 trillion cubic meters of natural gas.

The huge gas field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which is in Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers is situated in Qatar's territorial waters and is called the North Dome.
