Iran has requested Czech companies to take on a more active role in Iran’s energy projects, in particular incinerator power plants.

The Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian in a meeting with Premysl Sobotka, vice-president of the senate of the Czech Republic called for cooperation in renewable energy field, and recycling waste water as well, Mehr news agency reported Oct. 18.

Chitchian further said that renewable energy resources can be a base for mutual cooperation given the Islamic Republic’s commitment to increase the share of renewable energy from its energy basket from current level of 1000 to 7500 Megawatts by 2030.

Iran plans to hold tenders for construction of renewable energy plants with capacity to produce over 100 MW of electricity and the Czech companies can take part in the tenders, he added.

Establishing incinerator power plant projects in big cities which enable the Islamic Republic to produce electricity from garbage is also among the priorities of the Iranian energy ministry, Chitchian said.

The ministry has allocated 19 locations for construction of this type of power plants, he added.

If Czech firms are interested to build incinerator power plants or finance these projects in Iran, Tehran will welcome that, Chitchian underlined.

Sobotka, for his turn, expressed the European country’s readiness to cooperate with Iran in this regard.

Incineration plants are power plants that use energy released by burning waste to produce heat or electricity. This comes in line with new plans by the Ministry of Energy to offer lucrative prices for electricity.

Incineration plants will be launched around cities with over 200 thousand people population both to help power production and prevent waste from polluting environment.

According to the Sixth National Development Plan (2016-2021), Iran is aiming at the production of 700 megawatts of electricity in the form of waste-to-energy power generation.

The 6th plan envisions the production of five thousand megawatts of electricity from renewable sources.
