Iran has 5-10 gigawatts (GW) worth of renewable power firm projects for foreign companies in the next ten years, the deputy of Energy Minister Houshang Falahatian told Trend Oct.18.

He said that Iran proposed a guarantee for foreign companies to purchase their power firms’ electricity in a 20-year period with good tariffs. “We call on foreign companies to invest in Iran’s renewables projects,” he said.

Falahatian said that Iran has planned to purchase 1 GW of renewable power, generated in foreign companies’ projects in Iran annually, in short-term and within a 10-year plan.

Currently, Iran’s nominal power generation capacity stands at about 76 GW, of which only 240 MW (or 0.32 percent) accounts for renewables.

He said that Iran’s priority is construction of wind and solar power plants.

Below is Iran’s proposed tariffs for foreign companies: (Currently $1 equals 36,000 rials in open markets)
