A 230 kilometer-long pipeline delivering gas from IranShahr County to Zahedan City in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan will come on stream by March, an official said.

Hamid-Reza Araqi, the head of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), has said that the construction of the pipeline over the past four months has been accelerated, SHANA news agency reported.

In total 1,300 kilometers of gas pipeline is being constructed in the province, the official added.

According to him, laying the pipeline will cost $1.896 billion (60 trillion rials, based on official rate on Oct. 18).

Iran and Pakistan signed a gas agreement under former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahamadinejad.

According to the agreement, Pakistan was set to import 22 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d) of natural gas from Iran through the Peace Pipeline as of 2015.

However, Pakistan has not yet managed to establish its section of the pipeline.

Aimed at supplying gas to Pakistan and also Iran’s eastern regions, the Islamic Republic launched a project to construct the 7th cross country gas pipeline with a capacity of 110 mcm/d of which 21 mcm/d is projected to be delivered to Pakistan.
