By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

Swaupe multinational company expressed readiness to invest in Iran’s Chabahar Free Trade Zone, located in the southeast of the country.

Officials from Swaupe expressed interest to manufacture solar energy production units as well as residential complexes and mini-refinery in the zone after touring Chabahar facilities, IRNA news agency reported Nov. 28.

Abdolrahim Kordi, managing director of the Chabahar Free Zone Organization, said after a meeting with Brent Pearson, executive director of Swaupe, that an area of 800 hectares will be allocated for the multinational company to implement its projects.

Kordi further said that investment in Chabahar free zone enjoys a 20-year tax exemption.

Swaupe also expressed readiness to construct a 400-megawatt power plant in Chabahar.

The company’s officials signed several memorandums of understanding during a trip to Chabahar early this year.

Iran is building a special economic zone in Chabahar. The zone will act as a hub for power, industry (most notably steel), and transit. India is investing heavily in the zone in order to beat the Chinese-built Gwadar in the adjacent Pakistan.
