The National Iranian Gas Exports Company (NIGEC) has been dissolved, said the country's oil minister, Bijan Namdar Zanganeh.

According to him, there is no more need for the company to operate, SHANA news agency reported November 28.

In a letter to the heads of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Zanganeh relegated NIGEC’s roles to their respective companies.

According to Zanganeh, all affairs related to LNG will remain within the country's national oil company.

The affairs of gas export via pipeline, as well as import and swap of gas will be relegated to NIGC.

There are also several exceptions. First, there is an exception when gas export is made directly from offshore via pipeline or where the export is a part of the upstream-to-consumption chain. Second, gas export to Oman will remain under the NIOC.
