Iranian Oil Ministry has denied reports on the government’s plan to increase gasoline prices in the coming fiscal year (starting March 21).

Abbas Kazemi, a deputy oil minister, has said that the government has no plans to increase gasoline prices in the coming year, Mehr news agency reported.

The gasoline prices will stay the same next year, he added.

Earlier reports by Iranian media suggested that the government’s draft budget plan has proposed five percent increase in gasoline prices.

President Hassan Rouhani handed over his proposed draft budget bill to parliament on December 4. The draft budget has put the price of US dollar at 33,000 rials.

Media reports also said that the draft budget has envisaged a 20 percent increase in diesel prices.

According to the reports, the government’s income from the higher diesel prices is expected to increase by $281.5 million (9.290 trillion rials).
