Iran offers aluminum project to China’s NFC

Iran has offered China’s Nonferrous Metal Industry's Foreign Engineering and Construction Company (NFC) to undertake implementation of South Aluminum project’s second phase.

The proposal was made in a meeting between Mehdi Karbasian, managing director of Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) and Keli Zhang, the NFC chairman, the official website of IMIDRO reported.

The Chinese company currently is implementing the first phase of South Aluminum project, located in Lamerd Special Energy Zone in southern Fars province.

Karabsian said that giving the IMIDRO’s demand for bauxite, the company is ready to sign a 15-year contract with NFC on providing bauxite.

IMIDRO and NFC also signed two amendments to the contract to supply equipment for the production of aluminum ingots in Iran, Karbasian said, adding that Iran’s Alumina Company will provide aluminum ingots or alumina powder, worth 46 million euros to the Chinese counterpart based the agreed revises.

He also said that the two sides also can cooperate in cooper industry within the framework of Build–operate–transfer (BOT) or offtake agreements.

Karbasian further said that the construction of Jajarm Aluminum Plant, which is under construction by IMIDRO and NFC, will be completed by May 2017.

The project is part of the expansion scheme devised by IMIDRO’s subsidiary Iran Alumina Company, which is Iran’s primary supplier of alumina.

NFC, has previously cooperated with Iranian firms in different projects such as the construction of a new plant for Iran Aluminum Company, establishment of Iran Alumina Company and Almahdi Hormozal Aluminum Company.

Last week, the Chinese company announced that it will transfer modern technologies on the production of aluminum ingot to Iran.
