Iran’s electricity output hits 230GWh

Iran’s electricity generation stood at 229,354 gigawatt hours (GWh) since the beginning of current fiscal year (March 20), the country’s energy ministry reported Dec. 25.

The figure indicates a rise by 2.2 percent compared to the same period of preceding year.

According to the report, some 213,690 GWh of electricity was generated in thermal power plants, while about 12,346 GWh was generated by hydro-power plants.

During the mentioned period, the thermal power output increased by 1.62 percent and hydro power generation experienced a 11.8 percent growth.

Iran currently has 76,000 megawatts installed power plants, making it the biggest power generator in the Middle East and the 14th biggest in the world. However, the country’s energy intensity is also high. It ranks 18th in the world in terms of electricity consumption.
