Iran’s steel ingot output increases by 10%

About 16.8 million tons of crude steel was produced in Iran during the 11-month period from March 20, 2016 to Feb. 20, 2017.

The figure shows a rise by 10 percent compared to the same period last year, the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), said Apr. 5.

Iran’s privatized(state-run companies which recently have been handed over to the private sector) steel companies produced 13.137 million tons of crude steel during the period, meanwhile output of the private sector producers stood at 3.694 million tons.

Iranian steel producer companies also produced about 16.588 million tons of various steel products including beam, wide sheets, hot rolled sheets, galvanized steel and tubes during the 11-month period of the last Iranian fiscal year, indicating a slight rise by 3 percent compared to 16.111 million tons of products in the same period of the preceding year.

Iran exported 3.225 million tons of steel ingot (108 percent more year-on-year) and 1.647 million tons of steel products (16 percent fall) during the period.

Iran’s crude steel import also stood at 187,000 tons, indicating an increase by 82 percent compared to the first 11 months of preceding year.

The country’s steel products’ import reached 2.617 million tons, 30 percent less year-on-year.

Based on a 2025 outlook, Iran’s steel output is to reach 55 million tons, 15 million of which should be exported. For the current Iranian year, it is predicted that Iran will produce 18 million tons of steel, exporting 6 million tons of it.
