Iran’s annual copper concentrate output hits 1 mln tons

Iran’s copper concentrate output amounted to 1.072 million tons in the last Iranian fiscal year (ended on March 20).

The figure indicates an increase by 10 percent as compared to the same period of the preceding year, the Islamic Republic’s Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) reported Apr. 16.

The country’s copper concentrate output reached 90,769 tons during the calendar month of Esfand (Feb. 20-March 20), 6 percent more year-on-year.

Some 193,028 tons of cathode copper (1 percent increase), as well as 225,075 tons of anode copper (3 percent fall) were produced in Iran during the 12-month period.

The country’s cathode and anode copper output stood at 20,024 tons and 17,325 tons during the calendar month of Esfand.

Iran also produced 5,921 tons of molybdenum concentrate and 1,151 tons of molybdenum during the 12-month period, indicating a fall by 1 percent and a rise by 66 percent, respectively, year-on-year.

Iran possesses the world’s second largest copper reserve. At present, six copper mines are operating in the country.

Iran’s copper production capacity stands at around 200,000 tons per year and the capacity is projected to double by March 2020.
